About the Project

South West Scotland Regional Scouts have launched this project to Makobe, near Mombasa, in Kenya to help develop the small school for handcapped children in the village.

The projected was launched in 2009 and in March 2010 two leaders went out to visit the area and meet the local people.

A party of 20 Explorer Scouts and 20 Network Scouts and Leaders flew out to Kenya on 25th July 2011. They will spend 6 days working on the project at Makobe, carry out a series of projects in and around the school.

After the project, the team splits into two groups for the next six days. One group goes on a eco Safari whilst the other group go to climb Mount Meru in nearby Tanzania, after which the two groups come together again to fly back to the UK arriving on 9th July.

As my grandchilren say – only four sleeps to go!! Its getting closer by the minute. Last minute packing and panicking about what to take – not to take, and last minute preparations. But all goin to plan. The weather out there is hot hot hot so not too much in the way of fleeces or warm sweaters please – none are needed apart from the climbers. Remember malaria tablets and start taking them in advance as required.

We’re going to have a ball. I think this will be the best Scout camp you ever get to stay at so do enjoy the experience to the max. After months of working on it and planning it I’m looking forward to living it.

See you all on the train – don’t miss it!! We’ll move around in our Makobe project work groups so no-one gets mislaid between the train and Mombasa so look after your project leader and he/she will look after you!!
